RBYS General League Rules
ALL SPN Rules Apply if not stated below
A game can be up to 7 innings. All games are 1 hr 15 min. Last inning will be called 1 hr into the game.
5 innings will constitute an official game, unless cancelled due to weather/darkness or time limit..
Game is immediately stopped in the event of lightning. May carry on if cleared.
The City of Greater Sudbury have up to 5pm to decide if fields are unplayable due to rain/wet fields from earlier rain. Check our facebook page for updates.
The pitch has to go over and clear the top of the pitching cage to be considered a legal pitch but if it reaches 12 feet or over, the pitch will automatically called as an illegal pitch regardless if it hits the plate. There will be no quick pitches, umps will call no pitch at their discretion. If the ball hits the cage once released from pitchers hand it will be called a ball.
Maximum runs per inning are 5, except in the last inning which is open. There is no mercy rule of 15 runs after 5 innings
You need at least 7 players to play a game. If less than 7 it will be counted as a 7-0 loss
You can only have 10 players on the field at a time. Extra players will sit out, and will change EVERY inning. (Everyone takes a turn sitting.)
ALL players must be on the batting Lineup. Extra players sit out when their team is in the field, but they do NOT sit out of the batting lineup. EVERYONE gets a turn at bat.
Batter must get to first base before getting a runner. If injured players are unable to hit they will be skipped and will NOT be considered an out.
For regular season games, if less than 10 players you can temporary recruit player/s from a lower division. Pending league permission. You cannot recruit a player if you have 10 of your regular players playing. You can only recruit enough players to make a team of 10 players. If a lower division player is called up and is not needed but still plays this can result in a forfeit of the game 7-0 loss. This will not be an option for Playoffs
Third strike foul is an out.
Catchers must wear helmets.
All bases can be over-ran as long as the player turns/ runs to the right. For second and third A turn to the left is a signal they intend to go to the next base and player can be tagged for an out. If player turns right and decides to continue to next base they must tag the base before continuing.
Players are to cross the chalk line at home and not touch the plate when running home. If player touches home plate they will be called OUT.
The plate is considered fair, if ball hits plate off bat and rolls fair this will be considered a fair ball
If White commitment line between third and home is crossed players are unable to return to 3rd base and must continue home.
All players MUST stay in their dugout during the game. (Exception: washroom or to get a drink).
Junior’s will be allowed to make a courtesy step off the bag if there’s a swing and a miss from the batter and there will NOT be an infield fly rule in the junior division.
Junior division: If pitcher/coach is hit with the ball off the bat, player will automatically get to first base. Pitcher must make all attempts to move out of the way.
Intermediate and Senior Division will have the infield Fly rule, If player comes off bag during a swing and a miss from batter the runner will be out
No stealing and no sliding.
1 home run per inning per gender. Any other homerun after that will be a single. A home run is anything over the chain link fence if the ball hits the mesh top of fence this is considered a home run
A hitter cannot be thrown out at first base from the outfield. The ball can be relayed to an infielder and they can make the throw to first. (intermediate and Senior division only)
A batter can be called out for throwing the bat. Umpires discretion.
Balls used are softball size are 11’’
Bases will be set up by the first game home team prior to the game, and returned to the equipment bin after the last game by the Home team.
No team personal equipment (bats, helmets, bags) are to be left in the bins at the field.
The home team supplies a new ball for each game. The visiting supplies a spare ball and bats first.
All bats must have this thumbprint on them:

The home team will text a picture of the score sheet at end of the game to number provided.
Umpires have the right to eject players, parents, or coaches and will notify the committee when this occurs.
-1st offence, ejected from game
-2nd offence, ejected from game + 1 at field game suspension (player must be at field for the game to be considered served)
-3rd offence, removed from the league.
This is a fun league. Let’s keep it that way.
